Vinyl

Vinyl siding is an easy and cost-effective way to transform the appearance of your home. As the most commonly used option for home exteriors, vinyl siding comes in a variety of colors and textures to customize the exterior of your home to achieve a desired style. Panel designs include shingle, plank, clapboard, board and batten, dutch lap, and can even be made to mimic shake or log cladding. Unlike traditional, natural materials, you never have to worry about fading, cracking, peeling paint, rot, or insect damage. Constructed from a modern, synthetic plastic polymer, vinyl is lightweight, durable, and affordable. Even with minimal upkeep you can expect vinyl siding to last up to 60 years! Worried about damage? Vinyl is impact and wind resistant (up to 110 mph), combined with the watertight and easy to clean vinyl siding is a beautiful and modern way to protect your home for years to come. However, because vinyl is only fire retardant, it can warp or melt when exposed to extreme temperatures. So enjoy your grills and bonfires at a distance.

Fiber Cement

Fiber cement is a very eco-friendly material usually made from 4 basic ingredients: portland cement, water, wood pulp, and a filler material called “fly ash.” Typically fiber cement siding is designed to emulate materials like lap siding, shingle, or wooden shake, but smooth options are available. Unlike vinyl, fiber cement is a hard and rigid board. Because it is made of natural materials, it can be custom stained or painted, but must be periodically repainted and resealed over time. Fiber cement is naturally impact resistant and fire retardant, so it can stand up to pretty extreme weather conditions. However, durability comes at a cost. Fiber cement is heavier than vinyl. so you will need to ensure your frame can bear the extra weight.
